Dunno mate tbh,

but you couid always buy an old cat and smash the guts out, or get it cut open and welded perhaps

Early 1.9 TD's didn't have cats - just an extra silencer in its place, (so we fitted an earlier system to my bro's 98 1.9 TD, which has since passed two MOT's).

It's likely the same is true for 2.1's, (may even be the same system).

I can confirm that the 2.1 has a cat, I smashed the guts out of mine a few months back, took me around 30min's all in. Step by step can be provided if needed but once you're under the car it's very simple to see what's needed

The exhaust downpipe is the part with the cat. Just after the cat there's a flange that joins the downpipe to the center section, undo this connection and swing the center section out of the way, and prop it up, I used a brick, doing this gives you enough clearance to smash a long bar/screwdriver/whatever through the middle of the honeycomb material that makes up the internals of the cat. Once you've smashed as much as you can using this method, use a hammer to "gently" tap around the outside of the cat, not too hard as you don't really want to leave any visible sign that anything fiendish has been done to it, doing this removes what's left of the internals and you can "jiggle" the downpipe around until everything falls out. You may even want to start the engine to blast the bits out, may be easier but there will be smoke  Word of warning though, wear a mask as it gets quite dusty when you're knocking the thing to bits. Good luck :)
