Acceleration pedal on the FLOOR - what's going on?

** Please feel free to move the post if I've posted in the wrong area.. I'm clueless, lol)

My poor babe has been having a ''ABS FAULT'' flash up for a week or so now.
Today, got to the end of my road and all of a sudden I lost my acceleration pedal.
You can lift it back up but it doesn't stay up, if you press the hard quite hard you can get about 1500 rev, although on moving her this evening I was able to get just short of 2000 rev. (Incredibly difficult to pull off up hill when getting it onto my drive!)

It's a Peugeot 406 2001, 2.0 petrol LX Family estate.

IF it's the cable too lose or has snapped - though I imagine it hasn't snapped since I can get slight revs out of it.. how much will this cost, roughly?

Many thanks ;)

Maybe the clip that holds the outer of the cable has fallen off :?

As steve says, the small "w " shaped clip keeps the outer cable tight so that the inner cable can be moved by the pedal

The fact you can rev it at all means the cable hasn't snapped, mine went whilst joining a dual carriageway, scared me sh*tless!
It will be a clip or grommet lose somewhere, trace the cable along it's length and it should be pretty obvious where it's come adrift.
