Well after replacing bits and doing a leak off test have still not managed to cure the hard cold start, there is air bubbles on the inlet side pipe of the fuel filter housing could this be a housing issue its a hdi 90 with a siemens fuel filter housing with 2 ports and a sensor on top. I recently but in a new fuel filter and seal but the air bubbles were there before that.

I've had those bubbles for years.

did you look at all your fuel lines for leaks , where air is leaking in fuel will more than likely be leaking out. at the very high pressure the fuel is pumped to, I wouldn't think air bubbles would make any difference . get pp2000 to read your fuel pressure .

Yeah they all look dry it seems to be in the pipe from the primer to the fuel filter housing but not in the other pipes, diagnostics isnt telling me anything, also want to know how to check the bar pressure from the HP Pump when cranking the engine if anyone knows

I notice maybe one or two small bubbles in the same place, but when I squeeze the primer bulb it pushes a significant amount of air through - I need to squeeze it 4 or 5 times before it stops. I don't see any obvious leaks but I don't know where to look really - could it be anywhere back to the tank?

I'm having the same problem with cold starts.

Are u sure ur starter motors turning over quick enough? My car was having cold start probs & mechanic said it was 99% starter. Replaced it (£65) and starts within 1 sec o turning over

My mechanic suggested that too, but how come it starts fine on warm days?

Is there anyway to fix the solution instead of a new starter would cleaning all the connections and the copper greasing work i have the same issue starter has started to sound pretty sluggish or maybe new bushes

Starters can be "reconditioned" like alternators, haven't looked into it myself yet.

Cos in warmer weather fuel combustion behaves differently. When i turn key its really an eye opener to see how much diff,a new starter makes. Starts within 1st cple of cycles. When my old starter was turnIng over the engine i'd say i could count about 3cycles of engine every second:quite slow really,for cold weather.
Im amazed at how many folk will post a thread askin about air-leaks,glow-plugs,weak-battery,dying fuel pump,fuel-filter,etc etc etc,when in fact,their starter was gettin old/lazy!
