Revervse gear problem

Hello,

I am new to the forum, and hope everybody is well.

I have a 406 estate - its a 2002 HDi estate.... its only done 115000 and I have had it a few years now.

About 2 weeks ago, the car was really hard to get into gear, and eventually just totally locked up - the clutch was stuck on the floor, would not go into any gear at all, and well I was stuck.

Eventually got it back to a garage with the help of the AA.

They said it was the clutch (as did the AA man).

Anyway, I got a brand new LUK Clutch, and even the Dual Mass Flywheel... all in all abot £450.

The car has been going fine since.... but its almost impossible to get into reverse in the morning or when the car has been stood a while and its cold (like after work).

Once it warms up, it drops into gear, reverse, and everything.

Would any body have any idea of what the problem might be now ? I am just afraid something else is going to go wrong. Thank you.

I'm a D8 driver so not familiar with your car but I'd be checking the hydraulics for air or clutch cable is fitted correctly depending on which one you have, gear linkages for fouling/corrosion etc and possibly changing the fluid in the gearbox.

I'm assuming it's a 110 as you have a DMF which I believe are all hydraulic but I could be wrong, so bleeding it would be my first step.

Does it go into reverse when the engine isn't running?

I had a Citroen franchise put the wrong oil in my 2nd BX's gearbox and it made it a bitch to change gear when it was cold, however I don't think it affected reverse because there's no synchromesh...

I would say it was an oil problem (wrong grade),it would have had to be replaced as the existing would have been lost when the gearbox was out when the clutch was done or have you tried pumping the clutch pedal a few times before selecting reverse? If not give it a try as there might be air in the hydraulic system that needs bleeding out.My other halfs Focus has trouble getting in reverse when it's cold and that had a new clutch 8k miles ago but if i pump the pedal it's fine but i just haven't got round to bleeding it yet.

Hello,

Thank you for the kind replys, very much appriciated.

I will deffinatley try to pump the pedal tommorow (it was fine this morning... its really weird).

Is bleeding the clutch difficult, I know I will need a hand, not sure where the bleed valve would be located. Mine is the 110 version.

Kindest regards, Sid
