These sound like the cheapo 'ebay' power boost chips (which are basically a 2pence resister).
It's ok 'fooling' the ECU into thinking the air is colder, but its not colder is it, so it will inject more fuel into the same air as before and make the car run rich, which is not a performance mod.
If some one would like to correct me then please go ahead...........anyone?.......hello?..........

This may give an increase in performance (when I owned a 7 series, one of the members tried it as an experiment and reckoned it did work, but made the car sticnk of petrol), but constantly running rich is likely to ruin your cat, and increase bore wear as the excess fuel washes the film or lubrication from the cylinder walls. Not recommended.
