Hi all, first time poster here on the forums so go easy

Just replaced my 98 406 TD with a 2000 406 HDI 110 Estate and noticed a funny issue with the pedals.

Where i push the clutch pedal down, works fine, but on the return i get a feedback on the brake pedal like its been pushed towards me. Sometimes the feedback is quite hard as well and the brake pedal feels very stiff to brake with.

Very odd and something I have never come across in the old car.

Another wee issue is the back drivers door lock wont engage but the rest will fine. Is it a simple case of replacing the lock within this door?

it could be that the clutch in the hdi is hydraulic wereas the td is cable operated that might be what you are feeling

I can see you point john but if I am coming up on the clutch pedal, the brake pedal is that hard I almost cant brake

have you bleeding the hydraulic system and maybe change the fluid

Havnt bled the system but checked the fluid levels was just above the min max so filled to the max. Will give her a drive to work 2moro and report how it goes.

Anyone any tips on the door?

so with the top up on the fluid seems to have help quite a bit. Didn't notice it this morning at all on the way to work (55miles)

One thing that also has started is the speedo drops to zero for a while then starts again.

Seem to be when your on a really rough road it stop, then comes back to life about 10mins later.

Anyone any thoughts on that?

Ur speedo issue i had exactly the same thing. It was the speedo sensor at back of gearbox. They make em outta plastic which is crazy. New 1 will sort it. You'd be better replacing it on a ramp as you'd need to be a bit of a contortionist

I spoke too soon on the pedals still there but not to the degree as before. Would bleeding the system help. How would I go about doing that?

its a two man job
attach a bit of plastic tubing to the bleed nipple on the caliper the other end going in to an empty bottle
slacken the bllen screw and get second person to pump the bracken pedal steadily keep going till brake pedal firms up then tighten the bleed screw
repeat on other side
then check and refill to correct level

May I ask how it went with the sppedo problem. I've had the same thing with year 2000 406 HDi. The speedometer falls back to zero, and at the same time there is a slight power loss. As far as I can tell, it is mainly when the car is in the warming up stage. After a few miles it shoots back up to normal again and you feel the power return.
I did replace the sensor in the gearbox with a used one and the problem seemed to go away but returned again, and now happens on every journey. I'm used to it but it's a bit un-nerving for passengers !
Someone said that the gears in the gearbox that the sensor meshes with may also be a problem.
