defap and 180, the way to go.

hi, after problems with limp mode every time I put my foot down and having to reset with pp2000 because of differential pressure problems I finally went for the defap as recommended by dogslife, a kind chap on the coupe forum done the honours and also said I should go for the 180 remap, I was happy with the 136 when it was going well but a few more horses would add to the fun, the car goes like a rocket now and is very fun to drive, admittedly the fap did do a good job of holding the soot because everytime I boot it now there is a massive cloud of smoke behind me, the fuel economy has gone from 39 to 36 mpg but I expected this anyway, the kids aren't happy though because the cigarette lighter doesn't work anymore which is a big problem for them because they can't plug there dvd player in and are asking if I can have a 'demap' to get it working again. I'll get over this problem which is a minor one compared to the ones i've had but would like to say anybody thinking of a defap and remap to go for it, i've also put in a k&n air filter on but this has made no noticeable difference at all.

Remap won't break the cigarette lighter??
These remapped 2.2's sound brilliant! I reckon the soot is just whats left in your DPF burning away slowly. Also your MPG drop is probably down to your newly founded lead right foot

You can't be too sure, it scratched hell out of the fake wood round my ashtray!
(Sunglasses case used to sit happily in the recess at the front of the console, after remap, they launch themselves toawrds the back seat).

A bit of smoke, particularly if you floor it from low revs is to be expected without the FAP, (not enough oxygen till the turbo spools up), but most of the time there's none. Looks like loads of smoke at night in the headlights of the car behind, but any diesel without a DPF does this.
I would say it is
possible to get the same mpg as before, but if you've got enough self-control to achieve that, you probably shouldn't have bothered remapping it cos you're not using it......

I haven't got the self control to get the same mpg, have just had a week in north wales and coming back home through the mountains I just had to put my foot down on every climb and feel it pull, its not wise to look at the current mpg when doing this though, the thing is after plenty of anti pollution faults in the past i'm just waiting for the beep and light to come on so as yet haven't gone over 3000rpm, I need to get my confidence back with the car.
