Nice to be on board the Pug-406 thang, well I do have a few giggling problems with the old hdi estate, And it would be great to get some clear answers to them. Went to the sealer and just feel the guy might as well be saying give me all your money and some more I'll find a problem for you and it's going to cost you loads of money , then go to my local do it all mechanic down the road, try and get a second opinion to the the problems . Get a cheaper fix to the problem but still not fixed. First I've had a fuel leak took my local mechanic two attempts to find it , was leaking from the fuel sensor, he put a new one on, still leaking right lets see if the sealer can fix it , he puts in some fuel die and tells me its the fuel sensor, can only replace the hole fuel rail including sensor, £350. Go back to the local mechanic, he tightens the sensor up some more , still leaking from the sensor, The engine has on four random occasion idle fast and lack any power (engine management light comes on), turn the engine off start it up again and it usually back to normal idle and power again, ??? is this down to the leaky sensor and what to do next?

The milage on the car is 14000, engine sounds a bit clanky, did get a reply from a post I put up about this problem saying it probably the injectors? looking around the forum about this , is it best to just put up with clanky tapping sound or get them replaced? is there any damage waiting to happen, have tried using Red X to clean them and still hammering away.

And last the temperature reading on the multifunction display thinks it's living in the Sahara desert, display reads 50 Centigrade or 120 fahrenheit , any ideal how to get a fix on it ?

Don't know anything about injectors but the external temperature sensor of yours is definitely dead if it shows 50 degrees.
The sensor is quite easy to replace actually. It's in the outside mirror. My car has it on passenger side mirror but then again from my part of the world you are all driving on the wrong side of the road..so it may be on your side mirror. Look for a small "bump" at the down side of the mirror compartment. Then you'll just have to remove the mirror. It's attached with 3 torx to the door. I have a D9 so all information is based on my experiance but I doubt that the older models differ much. One torx is behind the small plastic triangle on the door. Remove that by just pulling it away. One torx is behind a plastic cap on the door cover and the last torx is also behind a plastic cap which you can find when you open the door. Close to the henges on the metal part of the door.
if you open these screws you can detach the mirror.
Now you'll have to remove the back part of the mirror compartment. Mine is painted in the same colour as the car itselg. You can remove that by just putting screwdriver between the small gap. Start from the upper part.
If you have detached that you can then remove the mirrorglass itself. If you look into the mirror from where you detached the painted part you'll see a small wire that is holding the glass to it's place. Just detach the wire and you can remove the glass. Then you'll see the sensor..it's attached with 1 torx. Remove it and replace. The wires can be attached both ways so no worries abut that. New sensor for me costed about EUR 17,60. Replacing it takes abtout half an hour for the first time...the second time it took me 10 minutes.

Cheers mate , I really wouldn't of looked in the mirrors. I'll go and call the sealer tomorrow and get a price. One more little annoyance, the roof trim on the estate, the black rubber strip on the roof which cover the gutter, its always popping up , press it down cleaned in up pops up again. I'm off to Longleat safari park next week with the kids, last time I was there , the bloody little monkeys had the aerial off, the washer jets off the window and started chewing on the rubber wiper blades on my old VW caravelle. And you can bet when they see that rubber strip it will be off in a shot. Anyone had the same problem with these rubber strips?

my d8 estate doesn't have rubber strips on the roof, just 2 metal rails firmly attached. If it's the same kind of rubber as the door trim, a bit of Locktite will keep it secure...
