Yesterday I managed to get to look at my fuel pressure sensor, took it off and cleaned it (the end and the connectors), fitted it (which was a pain in the arse) then jumped in the car to try to start it but nothing. I can hear the car trying to start but it just won’t fire up. Looked under the car and there was a very small puddle of diesel so I’m really not sure what’s wrong .
Tried clearing the ECU of its faults and the fuel sensor won’t clear and I have the normal glow plug error. Can anyone please help, I didn’t disconnect anything else apart from the sensor.
Is there any chance you have created an air lock? If a big enough airlock is created in the common rail it will find its way up each individual pipe to the injectors and it definitely wont start. Ive never taken a fuel rail pressure sensor off so I dont know if that would cause one or not but it would be the first thing I would assume, saying as you have diesel on the ground and all. If you hav'nt bled it at each injector then I would give it a go.
Could it be leaking diesel now because you disturbed the seal?
I've got the tech documents for testing it here but the tests involve testing from the engine ecu connector
1. ECU information available
Actuator test : No OK.
Measure parameters : Yes.
Characterised by :
Short circuit to earth
Short circuit to positive or open circuit
2. Checks to be carried out if fault is present
2.1. Short circuit to earth
Conditions under which the fault appears
Voltage present less than 0.259 V on terminal(s) 74 of connector 88V.NR of the ECU (Injection electronic control unit1320)
Checks/Conditions for checking
Control unit disconnected, Ignition off, Verify :- Continuity and insulation of wire BEngine running at idle, Verify :- Voltage : 1.3 V between terminals 74 and 34 of the 88V.NR connectorECU connected,
Ignition on, Verify :- Voltage : 5 V between terminals 44 and 34 of the 88V.NR connector
2.2. Short circuit to positive or open circuit
Conditions under which the fault appears
Voltage greater than 4.701 V on terminal(s) 74 of connector 88V.NR(Injection electronic control unit1320)
ChecksConditions for checking
Control unit disconnected, Ignition off, Verify :- Continuity and insulation of wire BEngine running at idle,
Verify :- Voltage : 1.3 V between terminals 74 and 34 of the 88V.NR connectorECU connected, Ignition on,
Verify :- Voltage : 5 V between terminals 44 and 34 of the 88V.NR connector
There is more but it basically says (in French ) to check continuity & for short circuits.
It was an air lock in the fuel rail, took a while to clear it but managed to, thanks!!
Afterwards I hooked up the fault reader and cleared the codes, one didn't clear ... guess what ... it was the (new) fuel sensor!!!
I'm not sure what to do next to try to clear this fault as it's in limp mode and it's getting boring being over taken by everything and not getting the mpg that i was getting before!! lol
Will have a look to see if any of that helps steve, I'm no electrician but I'll have a look thanks.
