I have engine noise accelerating up to 3000rpm then it drops off . Starts at around 2000rpm.
Best place to start finding the noise.
I have just had the cam belt and aux drive belt change and no mention of problems with the crank pulley (what is in there to make a noise anyway thought they would be solid?)

What sort of noise is it, rattle /screach
what area is the noise you hear,
it might help others to give you an idea what and where to look for,

If it's a light rattle, (like a petrol engine pinking), it's normally considered to be a sign of worn injectors. It goes away at 3000 RPM, because the HP pump changes to using all 3 of its pistons at that speed.
Not usually worth worrying about, my prevous Xsara HDi did it for 100k & it didn't get any worse.

Indeed it is a light rattle... I posted a pic of my injectors at idle one seems way off the other three
