Hi all, just taken my car for new clutch and mot. Noticed on start up blue smoke for several seconds. Car ran fine and didn't notice anything after. The car drove fine for 160 miles after picking it up nearly 2 wks ago,and this is the only time its been started since. Oil level ok. Could this just be a little oil seepage thru valve stem seals??

Valve stem seals aren't a problem on the HDi normally.

Blue smoke on first start can be unburnt diesel (usually on very cold starts though).

Possibly some oil build up in the intercooler, the engine may have been tipped awkwardly during the clutch change and allowed oil to pick up through the inlet manifold (bit of a long shot though) you could whip the bottom hose off the IC and catch any excess oil just to see.....

Don't know what else to suggest.

Clutch hadnt been changed ,maybe cos it has not been started for nearly 2 wks? Not much experience with owning and maintaining diesels, all my previous cars were petrol. But this is tipical valve stem leakage? Normally not a major issue??

Iwouidnt worry about it too much,
not unless it smokes blue all the time ,

one of my old merc diesels threw blue smoke out, now and again,
ijust threw a bottle of wyns stop smoke in, it cured it
