hi looking to upgrading to a 407 wanting to know which is the best hdi the 1.6 or the 2.0

both the 1.6 and 2.0 are Hdi

ahh, makes more sense now.
it apears that the 2.0 is a more robust engine as the 1.6's have been known to blow turbo's if not serviced correctly but its not as simple as that

so there is more problems with 1.6 cos i was swaying towards that model for the cheaper tax

Have a look at the power and torque curves

The 1.6 110 (green at the bottom) is weedier than the 2.0 90 (blue at the bottom).

On the other hand the 2.0 136 (purple) looks much stronger than the 2.0 110 (red)

So: don't touch th1 HDi 1.6 with a barge pole!

i think the 1.6 is a good engine for a town car with the occasional motorway blast to clean the dpf. Having said that the 407 is a big car and you,d be high in the rev range to often for my liking. If you want a 407 go for the 2litre, it will be cheaper over all as you won't push the engine as hard so often. The gf's 1.6 307 is just about right, wouldn't go any bigger with that motor.

the 1.6's are getting better fuel economy than the 2.0's
quite a few use them as taxi's and the 1.6 is far easier to map. they get mapped up to 140bhp without any problems and the Dpf is easier to remove as well

This (and Sam's post) got me thinking about getting a 407.
Looks like you can get an older 2.0 HDi one for about £2k. That would be good enough for a few months to see whether I could live with one long term.

There's an awful lot of electronics on them though. Isn't this just a complete liability with ageing cars?
I mean, if something electronic fails that prevents the car from starting and driving or causes and MOT fail then you have to fix it -- you can't just disable it.
Unlike mchanical problems, electronic problems can be exceptionally difficult to diagnose -- and you can't exactly attach a debugger like you would with any other software.
Therefore is it infeasible to own a car with lots of electronics unless it's under warranty?

We have had our 407 2.0 136 HDi for almost 3 years now, in that 3 years we have had a rear ABS sensor fail which is the only electronic fault it has had.

My mate has a Launch diagnostic kit which reads the 407 systems.

Last week I fitted a front ABS sensor to a customer's 407 (easy job) which cost £24 for the sensor.

I have replaced both bottom ball joints (common thing) and have a pair to fit on my customer's 407 next week.

I was unlucky to have a DMF failure at 44,000 miles.(62,000 done now)

Various warning lights come on and go off at various times which we ignore as there isn't a fault.

It's a great car, couldn't think what we would replace it with, except maybe the 508.

if your worried about the electronics on a 407 just buy peugeot planet (about £100) or look on the pp map and find someone near you with it (theres loads now)

ive had mine 5 years now and had the occasional message but nothing to worry about, everything costs money to keep working properly

Slightly OT, but where do the people on that map come from? Specifically I'm trying to locate zooankski in Cambridge.
