Anti Pollution Fault - HDI90 2001

Post by Pilch »

Hi guys - engine management light came up on the dash today as did the APF on the little screen.

Car seems to be running fun, although there did seem to be a pop when i started it up earlier off the exhaust but its only done that the once.

did have an issue with a leaky injector a while back, but thats been solved with a new washer.
any idea's?

Could be just about anything. If it's just a glitch, the EML will clear itself after a few journeys. If it keeps coming back try to spot any patterns as an aid to diagosis. I would just wait & see.......

My Xsara HDi 90 used to make a very occasional pop when starting, but it didn't register as a fault, so I ignored it.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Mine did that when I tried to shorten/tighten the throttle cable. Seems it needs the dead spot before throttle pick-up.

Went swimming today, same as before and it came on.

MFD said there was 80 miles in the tank. Fuelled up ran it for a couple of miles around town and few stop starts on the engine, and its cleared.

Using shell diesel same as before.

Any idea's? Could the fuel filter need changing? Not sure when it was last done - tbh the car needs a service!
