hi i have been offered a 136bhp 2.2 hdi. but the timing belt is due soon. ive heard that if it snapped it doesnt murder the engine which is unusual but has any1 heard the same
also the motor has done 142k so a clutch wont be too long i guess but has any1 went to change the dual mass crap clutch for a standard clutch from the 90bhp

I wouldn't run it I'd
Just put a belt on it and for the clutch I'm sure u can convert it to solid
Fly wheel so maybe worth doing that If ur gonna keep it not sure on price tho

Timing belt failure will damage it to some extent - last one I heard of needed 4 valves and a set of rockers, so well worth avoiding. I would change the timing belt, aux drive belt, rollers & tensioners. While you're at it, carefully examine the water pump and the dual mass aux drive belt pulley and change either if there are any signs of problems.

My 2.2 has done 175k on the orignal clutch & flywheel, despite being remapped to 180bhp 40k ago, so I wouldn't touch this area unless you've good reason to.

FWIW I wouldn't convert to a solid flywheel either, these ones seem reliable and it's there for a reason.

The flywheel's bigger than a 90 or a 110's.

Get the belt done ;) stuff breaks when they snap! Its not a bad job and theres some good guides on here how to do it. Give yourself a day if you never done one before, I got it down to about 3 hours now as my car had about 5 belts in 4 weeks but the less said about that the better, still trying to repress those memories.

I'd do the water pump too whilst your down there as they dont cost a lot and you won't wont to ever strip it all down again when you've done lol

Only tips I'd give, if you do change the crank pulley (axillary) as suggested, make sure the part is not made by 'BGA' or you could well end up needing a new engine in a few months time. If your motorfactor only has BGA pulleys, go somewhere else! Even when you have a non-BGA pulley check it is about the same as the one coming off....

Also if you get a water pump from Peugeot with the black metal type gasket, do not apply instant gasket as-well like people seem to do. It will more than likely make it leak! I applied mine without instant gasket and its bone dry
