Looks like it had been helicoiled so after consulting Jasper i've gone for the option of buying a kit that taps a slightly bigger sump plug into it... Really dont fancy removing it. :?

Update, inthe end it didnt need cleaning, took pipes off everything is spotless no oil,
was expecting some Gunk, but lukily nothing there,
was only doing this as aMatter of preventitive Maintence as you call it, as per Horror stories of D.c.i turbo eating itself

Lozz, talking of cleaning the intercooler I have minor oil loss emanating from the plastic piping under the engine that runs from
the turbo to the intercooler. It's not a serious amount and seems to accumulate and periodically drop off onto the garage floor. The
car (406 HDI 110 estate 2004) has always done this since I had it (and no doubt before that). I wouldn't mind getting that
pipe off and cleaning it out but I'm blowed if I can see how to access the jubilee type clip which holds the pipe at the turbo end - does
the NS front wheel have to come off?
