Strange Issue with Driveshafts after New Gearbox

Ok, so I've just put in a replacement gearbox, sold to me as a box from a 1.9TD 406. Gearboxes looked identical when side by side. I'm at the stage of refitting the driveshafts, but on both sides, I can't get the balljoint to engage with the lower arm. It's like the driveshaft is just a little too long and stopping the strut from swinging back in far enough. Most puzzling. While the shafts were out I fitted new CV boots. As far as I know, a BE3 is a BE3. It might have different ratios but should at least physically fit. Is this correct, or could there be some other minor difference that's tripping me up? Very frustrating, everything is good to go as soon as this final bit is done!

I know nothing but... Service Box lists two driveshafts for the BE3:
(just the lefts 'cos I'm lazy)

3272 S2 (NFP) DRIVE-SHAFT NEW LEFT
MARKING KN20 KN17 (KN20)
- INJECTION XU5JP
- INJECTION XU7JP4
- INJECTION XU7JP
- DIESEL TURBO XUD9SD
- INJECTION XU7JB

3272 S3 (NFP) DRIVE-SHAFT NEW LEFT
MARKING (KN18) KN15 KN18
- TURBO DIESEL XUD9TE
- INJECTION XU10J4R

So I'm thinking this gearbox came from an SD, which I don't think we've had on here. Possibly not even a 406 :?

There are codes on the gearboxes - can you see any of these (or similar)?
2205 TZ
NEW MEC GEARBOX
CP 15X64- CT 22X18
MARKING TB03 CH51 TB79 (TB79)
- DIESEL TURBO XUD9SD AND BE3 SINCE GEARBOX 8831001 UNTIL GEARBOX 9999999

- DIESEL TURBO XUD9SD AND BE3R MANUAL GEARBOX SINCE GEARBOX 0000001
MARKING CH51 (CHE1) CHE1

Thanks for that. I'm wondering if the 2 driveshafts are ABS/non-ABS? Mine doesn't have ABS. I'll hopefully get back to this towards the end of the week, will update then.....
