As is well documented,the engine mounts on the 406 aren't exactly the best in the world.

So after reading these here boards,and noticing that my HDi also shakes at about 70mph,I decided to do the engine, 'see how much it moves,when the car is stationary,' scenario.

I grabbed the top of the engine,and started to shake it,with not a lot of force,it has to be said,and in my opinion,it would seem that one or more of the engine mounts,could have seen better days.I obviously can see that there is an engine mount on the o/s strut top area,under that rather cumbersome looking bracket,and that there is/are one or more engine mounts within the engine bay,so my question to you all,is........

Where exactly is/are the other engine mount(s) situated,and does anyone have a diagram as to what they look like,and what sort of price are they to buy?

Although my HDi has only done about 89k,that doesn't mean to say that all is well.

nmot being funny but there is no mount at the bottom of the gearbox.

XU/EW/DW engine mounts are located

Top mount, this is obvious as you look at the engine bay its on the left hand side and bolts to the front of the engine

gerabox mount, this is located on the top of the gearbox and uses a stud that passes through a rubber buffer, on most xu models (205/306 for example) you ave to remove the battery + battery tray to see this

botomn mount, this is located under the engine on the cambelt side, it also acts as an intermediate bearing for the long driver side driveshaft to pass through this means it needs driveshaft removal to be replaced. it is a big metal casting with a rubber insert arounbd 3 inches in diameter, a second chassis mount that looks like a fork bolts through the middle of this rubber clambing the engine to the chassis.
