406 HDi 110 MPG
Has anyone else got a hdi 110? what mpg are you getting?
I use to own a HDi 90 and would regurly get over 50 to the gallon as my work commute is all motorway, just got a HDi 110 and cant get near it, struggle to get over 44mpg, the book says that the 110 is more economical is this true? your help please!!!

I only drive on short journeys on rural roads (the total oposite of why you should have a Diesel) anyway, I get 37 MPG in the summer and 33 MPG in the winter and thats with running the Air Con all year round, never turn it off.
If I go on a long motorway run and reset the OBC, then eventually it will settle at about 53 MPG by the end of the day.
In truth though, the ONLY acid test is to brim the tank, drive for a couple of weeks, brim it again and do the maths.
I always understood the 110 has higher consumption than the 90.
Hope this helps.

Well, 'Turbolag' on here does similar motoring if I remember and he drives a chipped 90BHP model, I think he gets around 50 MPG.
To be honest I wouldn't mind an overall of 45 MPG that's pretty good really for a large-ish saloon, However there are some considerations to look into:
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Oil service
Don't forget, in winter the economy can be upto 5 MPG less, I also run an old BMW tds and that has dropped by a massive 7 MPG in recent months.

I just meant make sure these things are upto date, a clogged air filter is not good for economy, similarly, if you know everything else is up to date like new fuel filter, oil & filter THEN you can monitor the economy from a fresh start so to speak.
Genuine replacement filters are the best, rather than aftermarket bits, and they not too bad from dealers or Eurocarparts if you check they are OE manufactured.
Why not try a tank of BP ultimate Diesel, I have not managed to get any yet as the only BP garage in my area has been closed down

I drive with my foot welded to the floor in my 110 and the least I've had out of a tank in 650 miles. The most I've had was just over 800 miles on a motorway trip, and that was doing 90mph from Glasgow to Stafford, then the return trip towing a trailer at about 70mph.
I think it's amazing, but then I've been used to a V6!

Well, as luck would have it today, very unusually, I've been on a 180 mile round trip all motorway and Dual Carriageways, tiny bit of built up area at each end.
On resetting the OBC at the start, the Average consumption for that lot at 8 deg C ambient and between 07:00 am to 11:30 am was 48.7 MPG by the time I got back, it was showing 50 MPG for ages then settled down to 48.
Speed wise, mostly 80 MPH.
The journey, actually restored my recent loss of faith to the marque and I am now smitten again, the 406 eats up the miles with ease, I just sat back with my armrest, heated seat on, left foot resting on the foot rest and just wafted along effortlessly.
I had to drop off my collegue after 180 miles and he jumped into his car and followed me back, when we got back he said his car, and seats, felt ***FREEZING***cold and he was shivvering all the way back

I have checked my air, oil and fuel filters, all brand new after service and all genuine parts, I have reset ecu and coming to work today at a steady 60mph on a motorway I got 43mpg, got to be somthing wrong with engine, should i consult a main dealer?? anyone have knowledge regarding the fueling of HDi engines, any ideas about a mechanical fault that could result in such poor mpg?

Firstly, I would do the Brim to Brim test, I came to the conclusion ages ago that my trip computer was 'about right' but I would check your consumption the old fashioned way first, then start finding a possible cause.

The car will use more fuel when it first starts up, after its warmed up fuel consumption will settle down. So if ur getting 44mpg on a cold start at 60mph thats not too bad tbh. I get 45-50mpg on a long run like 140miles or so at speeds upto 90mph.
