Fitting A New Exhaust On A 1.9TD

Managed to pick up a new(ish) exhaust from the bay of e for the princely sum of £26 at the weekend. According to the seller it was fitted to the car a week before the diesel pump let go and the car has now been scrapped.
Judging by the condition I can well believe him as it still has all the stickers/writing on so has maybe done a couple of hundred miles at most
Spent about £25 on fuel collecting it as courier prices were just plain daft, all in I have a complete exhaust including brand new rubbers and back box clamp for about £50!
Here's the question - Do I put exhaust paste round the flexi gaskety bit (technical terminology) where the front pipe bolts on to the back of the turbo?
I've got a new fixing kit from my local pug dealer but not sure if that part of the exhaust should have some movement in it as the bolt and spring arrangement is clearly designed to flex.
Anyone with knowledge of fitting D8 exhausts out there?
Cheers
Gareth
