i have pp2000 clone and when it link up to the green port by driver door it reads up until enging ecu then returns with ecu has not replied but if i have the engine running it can read it and i cant clear the faults am i doing it right 406 hdi 110 se 2003 estate

You need the ignition on, (or engine running), to interogate the engine ecu.

Mine often fails to talk to the engine ecu via a global scan, but works OK when selecting each individual ecu in turn.

Are you saying you can read engine ecu faults, but not clear them?

There is a sequence of requesting to clear, being asked to confrim you have read the fault codes, initiating a clear, turning ignition off briefly when prompted. Have you followed each step carefully?

when i try to clear them i put the miles in and then i click on the ok and then it say communication error

You should be able to do it with the engine stopped, but ignition on.

I don't bother with entering the miles, just skip that bit......

can permanent faults stop the engine starting? for example, high pressure fuel monitoring? if that fault is present it meets the criteria for the ecu to request an engine stop, I havent been able to start my car and i have this fault, so i'm wondering if clearing it will mean i can start my car and limp it back home for attention to the fuel pump (which is playing up again) without having to pay for it to be recovered

I've heard of a few problems with these clones, try updating the software, this seems to help in most cases.

ah right, but would the permanent fault be able to prevent the engine from starting or is it likely to be a mechanical problem?

A fault code won't stop it running, the cause of the fault code could though, try going to parameter measurements on the engine ecu and see what the fuel pressure is while cranking, you need around 300bar for it to start.

You could try unplugging the rail pressure sensor to see if you can get it to run in limp mode.

Agree with all of the above, but I would be tempted to ensure you have fuel supply to the HP pump. Lift pump problems are not unknown and excesive cranking without fuel can damage the HP pump

I've disconnected the rail sensor and the other one thats close by and its starting and running in limp mode never thought i'd be happy to say that! i've just replaced the low pressure pump so hoepfully the cranking wont have damaged it, if the engine runs with these sensors unplugged then does this point to a failed regulator?

I'd say it was one of the sensors that you've unplugged, do they both need to be unplugged to get it to run or just one? Whichever one stops it running will be the culprit.

I've plugged them back in to test and now the car works fine, which is confusing. I've cleared the codes then re-scanned on pp2000 and the only consistent code is the 3rd piston deactivating device, it's strange how it worked when I unplugged the two sensors but plugging them back in hasn't recreated the problem
