Hi guys im about to purchase a year 2000 406 hdi .. the owner was kind enough to point out a problem with the turbo.. he says it doesnt pull like it used to and that his mechanic said that the turbo is dying.. however.. i saw the car.. it doesnt smoke... owner said that at high speeds the car switches off for him sometimes.. it just loses power completely hence why he claims turbo is dead.. Would this really happen though if turbo is dying? never heard of the car switching off coz turbo is on its way out.. also the no smoke isnt a dying turbo symptom .. also has an engine check light on due to this...

If anyone can be kind enough to shed some light as soon as possible on this..especially prices for potential turbo replacement i would be very grateful.

Im also new to this forum and am located in Malta.. Cheers guys.. I thanks you in advance for any help

Hello and welcome to the Forum,

There couid be a plenty of reasons why The turbo is cutting out,

Istly iwouid check over all the pipe work,
vac pipes, and electrical conectors, you will see 2 solenoids on the Bulk head have alook at the conectors and pipes,
check for any splits in the pipes the slightest vacume leak will cause problems,

have alook at the Actuator on the turbo see if it moves freely (with the engine off)

Hi there, welcome! :cheesy:

If it's bringing up the engine light you should be able to get the codes read, not that it will point you to the culprit but it might give you some clues. Of course don't go to Peugeot for this, unless you're feeling extravagant
