Exhaust Manifold Gasket

Post by acqu135c3 »

Hey everyone, this is my first post so I'd firstly just like to say great site and thanks in advance for any help. I have a 406 SRi turbo and just recently the exhaust has started blowing quite badly from I beleive the exhaust manifold gasket. Anyway I brought a replacement gasket but I can't for the life of me work out how I'm gonna fit the thing. Problem is I can't get access to the manifold from either underneath the car or behind the engine from the top. The closest thing i could find while looking through the forums was some idea of removing the turbo but i don't fancy removing the sub frame. So if anyone could shed some light on this little mystery for me I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks again

Andrew

pig of a job tbh, remove cat>downpipe bolts so the exhaust is not contected to car.
remove top engine mount tilt engine forward (chock engine up on jack or similar) should have enough room now although will still be tight

Well I've done it. "Pig of a job" is a bit of an understatement! it was a nightmare... I'm just hoping i've put everything back properly cause i could smell a bit of oil burning when i first took it out, I'm hoping its just what came out when i took the turbo oil feed off. No blowing now tho which is always a good sign.

Thanks again Malachy.
