Hi All,
New record for me. Arundel - Oxford - Arundel (240 miles roundtrip) and trip computer showed 72.5 mpg average once home. Tyres over-inflated to 41psi (car very easy to hand roll) and rpm never taken over 1700 rpm. Did a brim test two months ago and that showed about a 1-2% error. Admittedly I left home at 0450 (roads deserted) and left Oxford at 1530 copping a little traffic in a few places.
Pretty pleased given a 12 year old car (110bhp HDI) with 199,700 miles and 15W-40 oil.

This is what they're for, and they're great at it.
41

I've only ever ventured as far as 35.

I was reading a hyper-miling website. These guys are nuts. They run their tyres (or tires in the US!) at 50+ psi - report only a 'few' blow outs in death valley! They not only coast behind artic-lorries, but also turn off the engine whilst there. Looney stuff...they do however get cracking mpg - skoda gave a fabia greenline to one chap (officail extra urban figure is 94mpg) and he got 127mpg out of it.

I am going to watch the wear characteristics but I dont generally give her the beans around bends, etc. I get her up to 50-60 mph and roll along. She looks like an absolute shed but is fantastic for the cost to run. MOT next month but she feels OK and I did all the brakes last year. I am angling for a Fabia greenline II when the depreciate to £5000 so I guess she will need to go on for another 12-18 months, perhaps 2 years.

@edward.. that wasnt a direct negative on you mate..
iwas Refering to the Americans filling there tyres to that kind of psi.. which seems crazy but iguess they dont consider the Risks to there passengers or other road users,
50psi ibet thats like running a car on concrete wheels they must have strong suspension springs eh
