I was under the bonnet earlier with the engine running, when I thought I saw a whisp of smoke come up near the throttle link
as I had a closer look I caught a wiff of that horrible hot electric smell... you know the kind thats not good.
I spotted this under the throttle behind the airbox, the box with the green connectors... the top of it felt warm so I ran my finger underneath... Ouch thats friggin hot  it shouldn't be that hot... thing is its now cool to touch with the engine running
Its a relay of some sort I think but for what :?:

sorry about the last pic being blurry.
Any chance it could be linked to my cutting out problem?
or is it more like just something else that needs sorting

That doesn't sound right no :?

There's two sorts depending on whether the car's EOBD or not, the changeover is in about 2003 (depending on engine, it's 12 July 2003 for the 90)

Ah, I found yours was a 90 but I wasn't sure of the year. There's a hell of a lot of current running through it, so I guess if the contacts aren't 100% and have a tiny amount of resistance to them then it'll get rather warm. On the same note, the connectors to it need to be spot on as well, so perhaps worth checking before you do anything else.
