It'll get written off but you might get a hire car for a bit and some folding for the old motor?

Re: Low level air intake and shallow water
After reading a few horror stories, I have avoided any sort of floods like a plague. I was thinking of just removing the intake pipe completely and just leave a hole at the bottom of the air box.

Re: Low level air intake and shallow water
I now have a 2.2HDi - going to rework the air intake to give better protection
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Well exactly.Captain Jack wrote:I was thinking of just removing the intake pipe completely and just leave a hole at the bottom of the air box.
Certainly the 90 must be sucking in a pitifully small charge compared to, well, any of the other engines -- some of which have smaller filters.
How does it come out?
Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Re: Low level air intake and shallow water
does this have any affect on performance? i chopped mine off at the bend, hopefully it give a few more inches clearance, not sure if the heat from the engine bay will affect anything in warmer temps, leeCaptain Jack wrote:After reading a few horror stories, I have avoided any sort of floods like a plague. Re: Low level air intake and shallow water
Did removing the link pipe go ok ? Did it affect the car in any way ?
Re: Low level air intake and shallow water
Done my oil change today so i decided while under there to take the air intake out and relocate it in the binsteve_earwig wrote:I guess it's up to you but I suppose if it's still misfiring after you've dried everything out and changed the air filter then it will be something more serious. My next step would be a compression test but I gather getting to the plugs is quite a job to start off with on a V6Now updated with a few links and also how to remove the link pipe below the air filter. I'd be interested to know if they're all more-or-less the same as they all seem to have different part numberssteve_earwig wrote:That'll do for a start, tomorrow I'll flesh it out once I've done some searching because we've talked about this problem before...
Easy enough taking the air box off and un clipping the pipe from that but it's a wiggle to get the bottom off it seems to fit into a snorkle kinda thing that routes up into the wheel arch liner.
I toyed with the idea of removing that pipe too but a few more wiggles and a bendy in towards the engine and it came out << Technical info.
Steve it looks like the same pipe with 3 holes in it...Easy to see that once full of water there's only one place for that water to go.
