Priming a 1.9td

I've got a small issue with getting all the air out of my fuel system.
Managed to get most of it out by cracking the union bolt leading into the fuel pump and clearing the bubbles but there is still a tiny bit floating round 'somewhere'.
It doesn't try and throw the engine of it's mounts on a cold start anymore but it still hunts a little (there is some veg in the fuel but not enough for the amount of hunting if you see what I mean).
Mr Haynes says to crack the fuel pipes at the injector end and crank the engine in short bursts. Knowing my luck it will fire up and piss fuel everywhere so I'm hoping for a cleaner option???

You've probably tried this, but if your priming bulb is going soft, have you checked the in-tank strainer?

Not checked tbh Doggy but I don't think it's the problem. I basically let too much air into the system when I changed the filter. It starts and runs fine but with a little hunting from cold.
I think there is an air bubble in there somewhere that settles at the highest point when the engine cools, which would put it around the pump.
Air leaking into the system would make it worse the longer it stood - I think?

Sounds more like glow plugs to me!

I have got a spare set of plugs but it starts first turn of the key.
I think I'll wait until the weekend and check the fuel pump union for air on a stone cold engine.

My 406 1.9TD used to hunt quite bad on veg oil for about 20 seconds or so.
New glowplugs fixed it

Just changed mine and it's made a big difference to the starting. Runs smoother after starting to.

Managed to get all the air out now via the fuel pump union joint, new plugs going in at the weekend if it doesn't rain and I can get my ham fists behind the fuel pump.
Any tricks to getting better access other than removing the fuel pipes and air ducting?

a quick update, new exhaust gasket fitted which seems to have fixed the leak and 2 new glow plugs in which has stopped the hunting. I am going to change all 4 when i have more time but the 2 behind the fuel pump had me scratching my head yesterday, any tips on making them easier to get at ?
