oil level sensor?

Post by sym »

hi, ive got a bit of a wierd thing happening on my d9, the oil display on the dash is giving different readings, sometimes it says the cars full, then its one circle down from full, i checked the oil today via the dipstick & it was full but when i left work the dash display didnt have any cirlces, instead it was flashing, am i correct in thinking the sensors on the blink? what sort of price are they from the dealers? thanks lee

Theyre never acurate,
just ignore the display and do checks at the dipstick,

digital gauges are B/s

Agree with Lozz, this electronic oil level indicator is never accurate.
Always rely on dipstick to measure oil level.

Mine reads all over the place in the 406 and in my Boxer van it sets off an alarm on cold mornings to tell me it's got no oil in it at all although it's full.

I've found that the oil display depends a lot on how the car is parked. If parked uphill it reads lower, downhill it reads higher. Side to side makes a difference, too.

Don't trust it (or the dipstick) unless you're parked on level ground.

Agree with the non-level ground effect. Also note it takes forever for the oil to return to the sump if its cold.

I find them genuinely useful, but treat it as a guide, not a complete alternative to checking manually.

yep,the oil level indicator depends on car ground level, like the petrol-diesel level and other.
I do regular check up of oil once or twice a month, when car is parked at level ground and im safe.

iwouidnt take the Gamble on that one mate,
that says 1.6 so it might be a differnt length,

Send them a message, and ask them they look like there doing main dealer clearout
they will more than likely have the access to parts data base to cross/reference parts,
