Anyone know owt about 307 gear selection?

After the recent demise of my daughter's 206SW with head gasketitis, she got a low mileage 307 1.6 petrol hatchback.
Now this one's expired with gear selection ills.
AA fetched it home for her last night, (she lives 60-odd miles away) and I tried, unsuccessfully, to determine what was wrong with it over the phone.......
'Stuck in first gear, clutch and brakes won't work, leaking (hydraulic)? fluid, won't move, AA man says it needs a new clutch, or maybe a gearbox or both etc).
So, my bro & I fetched it home on a trailer, by veg-XUD power,

(I don't have a towbar).
In reality the gear lever is floppy / does nothing, but clutch / brakes etc seem fine. According to ServicePox we have this gubbins.......
I'm hoping this is just a broken/detached cable and guess it will be fairly easy to check the gearbox end? I'm hoping someone can cast some light on the gear lever end of things - hopefully it's not like mine, where you have to start by removing the exhaust.
Any suggestions or related info gratefully accepted.
In case it's any help, VIN is VF33CNFUB82040584

Check the linkage hasnt popped off,
Might not be that but worth alook,
iirc the cable is goes in a slot on the top of gear box like a bracket there shouid be a clip holding it in place,
id see if the clips are still there,

Yeah, it's usually the clips that break/fall off and the cable pulls through the fitting meaning sloppy gear stick.....easy fix...new clip/s
I've also had the bolt in number 6 fall out and drop the support linkage off....but my money is with lozz, the clip/s have come off the cable.

Thanks for the info gentlemen.
Finally got a proper look at it - the clutch and brakes seem fine. It was stuck in 1st gear, but if I rotate the 'control weight' anti-clockwise, it comes out of first and the lever feels normal when it's in neutral. If you select 1st, it seems to go too far and lock there.
As far as I can tell, the cables are intact at the gerabox end, with both 'outers' correctly clipped into place. What's the chances of something amiss at the lever end?
(Even when it was working, there seemed to be too much fore & aft travel on the lever, but side to side felt OK).
Thinking about pulling apart the console etc in the hope of getting access - any idea whether it can be done from inside the cabin?

ive never worked on 307s so iwouidnt know (jasper5 is the best person to ask

)
from looking at a pic, obtained from ebay,
it looks like the gearlever linkage etc can be got at from inside the car,
it also looks like they couid have the metal clip holding them in place, another thing to check see if clip/bracket as pinged off (refer to part no7 inyour above diagram )
see pic

I've never had the inner gearchange linkages apart, the selection problems i've had have always been those clips that flick off or break....btw, these are the same as the Citroen C4 and they give the same trouble.
What I would do is to eliminate the inner arrangement by disconnecting the cables at the gearbox end ( just the one connecting the weight will do) then do the same thing with the weight by selecting first gear without the cable connected.....if you get it stuck in gear again then it's an internal selector problem such as a selector fork damaged or synchro ring damaged.

Looks like it's the gear control cable set, (plus a clip or two), I need.........
Reference Description Price - VAT Price + VAT Total + VAT
0000243825 RETAINING CLIP 0.77 GBP 0.92 GBP 0.92 GBP
00002444AN CONTROL CABLE 108.41 GBP 130.09 GBP 130.09 GBP
Found another ad for a new cable set for £80 and a 2nd hand one on fleabay for £40
looks like this:
this pics for a C4, but the 307 one's the same, just not very clear.
Can anyone remember how to search service box for other vehicles having the same part?

Before you fit the new cable kit take careful note how those clips fit, they are a bit weird....the cables clip together in a strange way.

I've also found a couple of ads offering the the gear lever assembly + cables for about £50. I'm leaning towards this idea, as I can also presumably rule out any possible fault with the lever etc. plus it gives me an example of the assembly properly put together.
(On the existing set-up, I can see that the outer of one cable, [the one that goes to the control weight], is not anchored at all). I think it's all OK at the gearbox end, so I can copy that end OK.
Sussed out how to search Service Box for the part no. but it's only used on 307's with MA 'boxes, (& obviously C4's too).

It's back on the road at last after fitting a 2nd hand set from a 1.4 HDi, which are really a bit too short, but were 'persuaded' in with some difficulty.
Fingers crossed they last a reasonable time.
It's a truly lovelly job to do outdoors in December, specially coaxing the massive grommet back into its orifice with bugger all access. My fingertips will probably recover in time.
Children are wonderful.

Well done Doggy, brilliant job
It's not much fun working outside in the winter, I've just started my 33rd winter working outside.....don't really want to do a 34th!
I'm doing a clutch outside on wednesday on a Honda Jazz.
The owners 6th clutch in 30,000 miles
