I've been looking at the forum for a while and found lots of great info…thanks.
Thought i would post and ask you guys if you think the Pug has a problem

it's a Rapier 90 BHP 2.0 HDI 51 plate 167,000

I'm averaging at best around 36 mpg
when i drive at 55 mph i can usually get it a bit higher but not much
Reading through posts here you guys are getting some amazing figures

the 36 average is motorway driving usually sitting around 70-80 mph

IS this normal for that sort of driving speed. I never drive it harshly as in hard acceleration/braking
Do you reckon there is something that can be improved?

Any suggestions welcome. Im considering changing the car as i do around 20,000 miles a year

you should be able to get 50ish mpg out of it so now for sum questions

when was it last serviced and what filters where changed?

is the engine light on whilst the engine is running or on for more that 10sec when the ignition is on but the engine is not running?

give it an italian tuneup as it may be a bit clogged up

How about if you take the handbrake off and leave it out of gear can you push it along the road yourself?

Are you asking if the rear callipers are stuck on a bit or telling him it's cheaper to push it?

Mid 30's around town this time of year sounds about right but you should be getting way more than that on the motorway.

If he can push it along the motorway at 70-80mph...

Any caliper or the handbrake shoes, it's easier than jacking all the corners.

On the 110 I usual get better economy if I keep it under the magic 3,200rpm.

Where did you get the mpg from? Be wary of inacurate trip computers. I've owned 2 and one over read, the other under read.

Do you normally have trouble keeping below 97 mph?

Mine returns about 42 mpg at the mo, sticking to 70-ish most of the time.

Not in 1st, no.

I tend not to drive at 97mph in first gear… usually move to second around 80ish mph

Basically done the filters myself … probably last year if I'm honest though oil & filter change around June
No the engine light does not stay on once the engine has started at least I've not noticed it doing so
I reckon I need to stick it in a Peugeot independent garage and just let them do a full service on it and see what it's like afterwards… It'll be cheaper than buying a new car for sure

In regards to an italian tuneup… what would you recommend as a system cleaner and additive?
oh and yeah the MPG comes from the trip computer

The trip computers on these are generally fairly accurate (unlike other cars that I could moan incessantly about ) but you could always check it yourself the old fashioned way.

When i did a tank fill up to tank fill up calculation my trip computer was reading nearly 10 mpg less than the car was actually doing.I'd try that before you chuck any money at it as you might not have a fault at all.

no don't add any cleaner to the fuel just add 5,000rpm to the engine for 6+miles

where are you as i would be willing to have a look at it, i am in sheffield south yourkshire

5000? i hope he finds 6 miles with no speed cameras i went through the gears at 4000 and almost crapped myself.

well i do it in 3rd so don't rely get that much speed up but ye don't brake the law in your country speeding is dangerous
