I've always used 10W 40 semi skimmed. No issues in over 200k / 9 years.

Had to go get fuel for the wifes car tonight so got 5/40 fully syn.Morrisons do it in 4 litres so had to buy another 1 litre,£24.99 for 5 litres, which is much cheaper than a few well known parts places any my local factors. Its carlube and meets the specs for the hdi.

5w40 fully synth would be my preference. It may be a tad more expensive. However, if you are prepared to buy a little bit of volume, 25l drums available for £75. Knocks even the supermarket prices into touch.

Also 5w30 is in spec for winter (and 99% of days in British summer!) Should give a small contribution to better economy.
