Losing the will to live!

OK - i bought a 406 about a month ago - got it for the bargain price of £500 - had the usual DPF light and particulate filter issues that these diesels are renowned for, hence the bargain price.

Not a problem i thought - topped it up with PAT fluid and dropped it down to my local "pug specialist" independent - he can't reset the darn DPF - comes up saying ECU fault.

Tried 2 others - all the same result, but all using portable units designed for every car since the beginning of time. So off i trott to buy the full Lexia 3 / PP2000 rig which lets me do almost everything EXCEPT reset that bleeding Additive level - did a forced regen of the filter absolutely fine, but comes up unrecognised Additive ECU - trying ECU / Unknown - do you want to carry on anyway? / Yes and reverts to the same screen again after doing bo diddly.

This shouts to me the ECU is knackered, but can i find a bleepin replacement? Can i heck - mines the 2.2 litre HDi at 139BHP which apparently cannot exist as the only one's i can find are from the coupe version! At this point i am definately confused.com.

Any ideas and suggestions? Would the ECU from the coupe work in mine, given in theory it's the same engine? And can i re-code it my key using PP2000 or do i have to weep into my wallet to get the main dealer to do it?(who around these parts is a tea-leafing female dog to put it mildly).

i came to the same conclusion!

Brought the kit to re-map it, so over the crimbo break i'll take the DPF out of the exhaust and map the FAP out of the ECU at the same time! Gonna give her a bit of TLC at the same time - oil, filters and coolant change.
