Tried a Tuning box on the 306, didnt cost me nothing,so thought itd be worth a try,

But when its plugged in theres a Tapping sound from the 3rd injector, not loud but it dosent tap when box unpluged.
is this normal for tuning boxs on the petrols, or am ibest leave it off, ?

the taping could be detonation or pre-ignition or a combination of the two in that cylinder so best leave it off

Cheers,

Ive left it off for the time being carnt find any info on the net for this box, its a German A I C or something
its s'posed to be one that can be Adjusted but icarnt find nothing on it to Tweek it,

iasked someone else, about the tuning box and he said it might have a Mod chip in the ecu so the tunning box might be making it overfuel,
not sure how to take apart to check to see if its been Modded tho or what chip to look for,

Those tuning boxes are awefull!
They basically are a resistor and hide what the fuel pressure regulator is telling them. This in turn allows the fuel pressure to increase resulting in more fuel being injected.

When a car gets remapped it alters the timing to give you the extra power. This is because manufacturers have to hold back when it comes to building engines due to harmful NOX gasses. When you adjust the timing of the fuel you get to use more of the diesel being injected which gives you more power but increasing NOX gasses.
Although they do up the fueling slightly, it's not as much as you would get from a tuning box.

The tapping from the injector means it's worn. Nothing to worry about! The tapping should stop ~3,000rpm.
People on pug306.net have had their injectors tapping for 100k and still fine when they've sold/scrapped the car!

The injector only taps with the tuning box added,
theres no noise from it or the others with the tunning box un-pluged,

Thats because the fuel pressure is increased significantly putting more stress on the injector. Therefore any signs of wear will be more likely to show.

Many people have found that a remap actually cures injector tick. Obviously this is only if the injector is ticking in the first place :)

had one of them boxes plugged in to my 2.2Hdi for that past 20k miles. Made a big difference especially when towing. no noticeable down sides. and hasn't caused any issues (unless you can somehow attribute yesterdays snapped cambelt to it...)
