2.0 HDI Oil Pressure Insufficient + abs fault + coolant

Hi all, I am new and have bought myself a 406 at a bargain price. Now it has no service history after about 70k miles, but apparently the father of the guy I bought it from has his own garage and has been maintaining it (likely story). Anyway, today I drove to a more car-savvy friend's house and we had a look at some bits and bobs. The radiator had hardly any water it and the oil was a few mm above minimum. A litre-or-so of oil 5w40 was put in, and radiator filled. However on my display (which has bled so it took me some time to work out what the writing says as it looks like this: "¬|| \||-¬!" more or less. One is "Oil Pressure Insufficient" and the other is "Brake ABS Fault." not sure about the latter as I can only see half of it. I plan on doing an oil change and filter change within the next week (possibly Monday). The oil temp is fine and water temp is fine. No knocks or rattles. It's an X reg with 176k on the clock. Also the oil pressure insufficient message only appears when the key is first put in the ignition, same with brake abs fault. Not come on while driving and no lights on dash other than service spanner. In regards to brakes, the front are fine but the back will need changing soon. Any clues to the problems? Is it okay to drive for the time being with oil pressure infufficient? Or is it best to take it to a mechanics to get oil pressure tested, unless someone on these forums has the tool required and lives in Devon? Cheers.

Also just had red coolant light crop up on dash then dissappear. Keeps coming back at random intervals but the engine temp is fine and not overheating. At least not to my knowledge.

HELP APPRECIATED.

Hi & welcome to the forum :)
I had the low oil pressure fault a few years ago.viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9047
Replaced the switch and all was fine.
I also had the coolant light on at random intervals even though the temp gauge was fine.viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10527
Replaced the sensor & all was fine.
If the abs light is on,then there is a fault. Its usally a duff wheel sensor or the cog teeth on the wheel bearing being broken. The front cogs are easy to spot,on the end of the drive shaft afterr the rubber cv boot.If a tooth is broken or the ring is snapped, tyhe abs light will come on.Same as if the sensor tip is broken.
The rear sensors and teeth ring are hidden by the rear disk. You have to remove the rear disks/brakes to see them.Same as the front, broken teeth or sensor tip.
Once the teeth, fault is fixed, the abs light will go off within a mile of driving. So far i have replaced 2 sensors & 3 wheel hubs with the toothed cogs.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply, however I do not have any tools required to get to anything! The biggest help would be a fellow pug owner helping me do all these things as I have no clue what I am doing. It is my first car ever! I have bought new coolant also as I want to change it, and will be getting oil filter also, but again I have no clue where it goes or what screw I need to turn. I don't even know how to flush the radiator! Hah.

Anyone willing? I can order sensors/fuses/etc before hand and am willing to travel. In Exeter at the moment.

Also another issue I have is the speedo cutting out randomly (doesn't help when there are speed cameras as I know what 30mph in a bus is, but no clue in a car). After a bit of googling it's the speed sensor that's by the gearbox? Again I can't get to it.

I plan on fixing all these things and a timing belt/cam belt BEFORE February 20th as I will from that point on be travelling 50m each way to get to work. I will make any help worth your time folks.

Am in Exeter and the car is now uninsured whilst I swap providers to a cheaper one. So I can't travel.
