How much does a head gasket cost

Post by FarmerPug »

I suspect my mum has overheated the clio at some point, its loosing water and ive changed the thermostat, i dont think the waterpump is the problem because it doesnt actually overheat unless there is no water in the engine.

If i get the head off what is the average cost these days of getting the head skimmed?

K seal worked on the panda :supafrisk:

But the panda was only loosing water, the clio is loosing both water and oil, and there is a big mess of oil around the back of the engine, i had a look today and the rocker cover gasket seems to be perished.

A neighbour is selling a toyota corolla 1.3 soon and it might be a better choice than working at the clio,
even the old carina might do if i get it through the MOT, id imagine its more economical than the clio.

Replacing the headgasket shouidnt be too expensive,
only problem is once the cam belt as been disturbed how long will it last.
so you have to consider changing that too,

its not a hard job on the clios,

ive done a few clio headgaskets and ive found a common symtom on them, run the engine up to temp and whilst at idle turn the blower inside on hot, if its blowing cold and when the rev's increse the air gets warm then the gasket's toast.

the ones ive done showed no other sign's of headgasket and i even had a row with my former boss about one, he was adament that the hg was fine but when i bet him £20 and told him to try his leekage tester on it he found i was right and i was £20 richer :cheesy: :cheesy:
