does anyone know if a larger more effective intercooler can be fitted in the original vertical mounting point next to the rad,fancy trying a bigger one but dont fancy going to the hassle of a front mounted one as it sounds a lot of work?

I been thinking of doing something like that myself, but I dont think a bigger intercooler alone will do much tho.

i think a larger volume intercooler should be beneficial as ive had the car remapped and decatted

You won't fit a much bigger intercooler in the OE position, though there's scope for a thicker one. If you plan ahead then an FMIC isn't too much hassle. the popular solution is to make some alloy brackets to tilt the top of the rad inwards, and thus create room in front. Alternatively, there is room in the lower bumper for a long, slim one (oo-er matron!).

Nothing too strenuous in either scenario, provided you have basic metal work skills and a few spare quid to spend on a cooler/scrap ally/hoses. You'll likely see an improvement in power a little further up the rev range, effectively widening the sweet spot in the power band.

yeah i thought as much didnt think that there would be much scope for a bigger one!!!!!!! in the original position but didnt fancy going to the hassle of an fmic but now youve got me thinking i prefer the idea of the skinny one as opposed to tilting the radiator i dont mind spending a bit to get the right cooler and hoses as long as its not a small fortune!! and bracket fabrication wouldnt be a problem as we have a metalsmiths department at work,do you know what ic would suit this application? and i suppose front bumper removal would be manditary how big a jobs that?

yeah the cossie one looks the best bet im trawling ebay as we speak just seen one for a punto that looks pretty good too a skinny one with inlet and outlet at the same side would be ideal but doubt thered be room

I wouldn't go for the punto, based on power and the sheer size and engine size difference.. its a small blower on the Punto, now cossies are T3's with much greater flow rates than the std unit, so I'd go for the cossie one !

They are selling products on ebay and when I asked them about their pressure testing and cooling efficieny testing they couldn't give me a definitive answer.... althought they are great on the old LandRovers... not heard any reports for any of the other products / vehicles etc..

Samco sell numerous individual hoses, pipes, joiners and clips, and also do 'universal' I/C hose kits for about £80, which contain about half a dozen hoses/pipes etc.

been having a closer look at the car tonight and theres not much room at the front between bumper and rad fans how the hell does an ic fit in there?!!!!!!

It doesn't... you have to visit your local bodyshop and get your bumper cut and extended a good 3 - 4 " in order to fit a FMIC, its best to go cossie unit and fit it in the std location!

that sounds easier than the fmic ive just been looking at cossie ones on ebay have you had the pleasure of fitting one niz?? and which model cossie do i want?
