I can't offer any advice myself, but I know KrisB has done this :) He might be along with some information.

Tbh. ifind some of the 306 forums abit of a mixed bag,
some good chaps on them but theres always the nobs,

ask aperfectly normal question on them and your bombarded with keyboard warriors,

its not worth the waste of wear and tear on the keyboard,
sorry if it causes offence but im just being honest,

2.1 will drop straight in. Try get an engine loom from another 306 dturbo though.
I have a funny feeling the bulk head will need some beating to stop the turbo rubbing!

Fit a Bosch pump for veg oil!

And your likely going to need a subframe from a XU/DW or XUD engined 306 or Xsara.

I don't know if it'll give you any issues but the 2.1 is quite a heavy lump, the 2.1 406 uses the same springs as a V6...

Seems like a whole lotta trouble to me.

I always say you're best to buy something that left the factory the way it should be and then 'tweak' it a bit if you must.

The other risk you take is that once you change the engine you render the car almost worthless to the average buyer.

You don't need to change the tank, just replace the pump with a bit of pipe, that's all it is on a diesel 306 (I've done this swap the other way, diesel to petrol!)

I seem to remember someone fitting a 2.1 XUD into either a 205 or 306, can't remember which, and IIRC there was some problem with the turbo exhaust outlet being in the wrong place/hitting something, not very helpful I know, but it's something you can look into, it could have been a completely different engine :supafrisk:

Be better off with an Xsara.

The xantia is 406 based!
