I need an expert and I need clear, slow explanation (EW10J4)

I have an EW10J4 engine (2.0 16v petrol) made in 2001. It's a D9.
It's an LX Estate (7 seater) if that helps as well.

I am desperately trying to locate the throttle housing, cable and retaining clip. I've seen a video of a member who has a HDi on YouTube and that was easy enough. Where is the throttle for us Petrols? I have taken a few photos so you can tell me where to look, I feel so stupid but on my previous diesels (205's) it was in a real easy place and with great access.

Today, I have taken off the engine cover as a mechanic friend of mine told me a while ago that it would be under there :? Do I literally have to disassemble the blinking car to find it?
And on that note: there were 3 bolts to remove (3 were missing) where do I find these weird, arrow headed screw / bolt things to make sure there's a full set of bolts holding that cover down?

While we're also on this subject, what can I use best to clean up the oil over the engine cover and on the actual engine itself? I want to make it look reallll clean  (That's the woman in me coming out now look lol)

Find the throttle location: (My version of wheres wally, at the moment).
My suspicions are that it's behind that black cover to the left of the engine - but what do I know? Not a lot.

I hope that's enough pictures, Sorry for it being such a stupid thing to ask but I don't know what is where in this flippin' car. I much prefered my 205's and diesels at that, my first petrol car and I have no idea..... Mind you, don't think I had any idea before but it was just a lot better accessible. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Thank You in advance.

In your first picture at the bottom is the throttle cable (the slotted plastic fitting) where that connects under the plastic housing is the throttle body.

Picture 4 shows it very clearly.

Clean off the oil with......brake cleaner

Thanks for that, I found the thing between air box and the fuel pipe, removed the 3 bolts but can't separate and open the box at all... is the throttle clip under this long black box? I need access to the clip itself, it was repaired with a cable tie in the garage about 8 months ago and whilst it's held I want to check the condition of it and see how secure it really is.........

Thanks :)

It was so much simpler when these things were on show though in engines, instead of under bolts, boxes and all that jazz!!

Ok - dumb ass here opened said eyes and found the clip.

Gutted these crapping new engines don't let you play with the throttle (as said HDi user in his video could) This is fixed and unless I take the clip off..... :supafrisk: :supafrisk:

Give me my perfectly easy 1.8 TD 205 engine back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x

When I had my old 2.0 petrol, I adjusted the throttle response using the metal clip that's on the plastic cover of the cable (just before it goes into the black plastic. just take up all the slack in the cable until the engine starts revving, then go back 1 slot & put the clip back on the cable.

As far as cleaning the engine goes, a spray of WD40 (or own brand knock off stuff), a stiff brush (or an old paintbrush) & a hose can work wonders. It's not just you women that like a clean engine bay:

Problem is my metal clip broke and has a cable tie around it so that may make it impossible? I shall have to investigate again tomorrow....
Thanks - I bet I look a right typical silly woman now

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm not overly mechanically minded either. I have a few little specialties that I can do, but most jobs require professional assistance at £50 per hour.

The broken clip doesn't need to be too much of an issue. It's been a while since I saw one in the flesh, but I'd wager that I could get a large paper clip to do the same job with minimal messing about.

Funny you should say that Stalker, I just asked a local-ish friend who also said about Claridges. Did a google search and found they existed, a bit of a walk from me I admit but damn I am so going there :) Doesn't look like they have any 406's in so far :(

Are you local to me?
