Thanks I did look at them but the price of just a map! Lol I don't see why its so Mich my dad has a ford monfeo and got a custom map for his car for 65 quid locally and they dynoed it if its gunna be that much I might as well get a tuning box as 5 gear has its funny moments and does not like it at all only if I got a long ruin it goes in

They are still very cheap for a map, i paid £280 for the off the shelf map for my old Y-reg 110 2.0, i've paid more than that for the map on my 2.2 Coupe, but it's custom written and is stunning to drive, you can't expect to get anything so cheap that is actually going to be good for the car, tuning box isn't the answer as all it does it fool the car into increasing the fuelling, so one parameter out of many that needs changing to keep everything balanced, it's just not a good idea.

18mpg???

On my 110 no matter how hard i drove it and if i was around town or not my average was never under 39mpg, that was remapped to 136bhp.
My dad has the car now on 167k, only done a few thousand since i sold it to him, averages between 45-50mpg

My 1.9 will give me 37 mpg round town easily, over 40 if I'm careful to avoid the turbo kicking in (usually lasts about 5 minutes before I get bored).
Either something is seriously wrong with your car or you drive every where on the red line in second!

Er... how are you working out your MPG?

Reading to Plymouth is about 200 miles and 1/4 of a tank sounds about right for this distance.

If I had a car with a gear box falling apart, then I wouldn't be thinking of a remap.
How do you work your mpg's out?

I agree with Busman,
I'd leave the re map alone if the box is iffy,
