406HDI FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR

Hi guys.

In relation to other thread over 406 fault, I think I have found the problem but I dont know whats causing it?
I have had the same symptom about six times and everytime i take the pressure regulator out it looks like this.
I give it a clean, put it back in and then just wait for the fault to return

Also, i dont know if its a coincidence or not but the car seems very loud from the bottom end.
Am i wasting my time on this do ya think or can the old girl still redeem hersellf????

What is that on the end of it,
Is it my eyes or is it gritty

Is it possible you've picked some bad fuel up somewhere

not sure, but its dirty whatever it is?? I wasnt sure if it was tiny metal fragments. I will have to wait for car to pack up again (wont be long) an
see if i can pick anything up with a magnet?

Seeing as you've replaced the HP pump /lift pump

My thinking is contaminated fuel,
I might be wrong though,

Did the car first break down after a visit to a fuel pump

The regulators sticking open like that ain't right, 1. Failing is to be expected but. 3. Isn't right,
From the video. It sounds like you've got a lot of. Injector. Clatter

Mine is fixed and doesn't move so I am not sure what you mean by sticking open?

My initial fault was either hp pump failure or engine loom, replaced them both at same time though so will never know which one was the culprit. I was assured it was a good working pump though.

I got some supermarket fuel an it was probably about 20miles after that it packed in. My first though when I took the regulator off was that the hp pump had broke up and blocked the regulator an that is the debris I am getting on my tip?

Noise seems to be coming more from belt side of the car, depends where you stand as well as to if you can hear it?

Bodywork an interior great for her age and she drives really solid.....when she drives so I don't really wanna give up on her....just yet

there is more than one way to deal with what looks like fuel contamination option one is to bin all the fuel thats what i would do or option two is to take a piece of muslin and filter it trough that and then sum finer fabrics

and clean all the lines out with petrol or whit spirit

I running low on fuel now so probably best to ditch what I have.
What's the best way to clean the lines out and can you clean the common rail as well?
I was a bit worried that it was tiny metal fragments from my old pump (although it was never fully confirmed to be that ), or maybe a bit of a dodgy new (well 2nd) that's already on its last legs???

What's muslin an some finer fabrics? Can I just pinch the missus's tights

Use a pair of old jeans. Tie a knot in the leg

Works with wvo. So shouid work on straight derv.
