XUD11 engine wont start

This engine went very well but had the odd surging issue not long after start up which was never fixed but you could live with it.
Now the car is not not starting at all yet has fuel, compression etc and timing is fine.
I don't know if mechanics have plugged it in to get a fault but am thinking i will replace the green water temp sensor on the head and
leave battery disconnected for a few days before i retry.Otherwise it will be a lost cause and that is a shame as it goes very well.
Any ideas to try?
Thanks for any advice
John

the fuel pump may have collapsed and the temp sensor would not stop it starting as it is a mechanical pump

the only this that would stop it are mechanical faults you could try the start stop but as these lucas pumps are weak it may be that the pump has collapsed

yes possibly but it seems to have diesel at the injectors no problem. My thoughts were the computer has had enough of the faults perhaps and that it is what is stopping it starting as opposed to a mechanical issue but i really do not know.

Pug here diagnosed the surging on my 2.1 as a knackered pump, however I took it to an injection specialist who diagnosed it as knackered injectors & needle lift sensor which they changed clearing the fault. I suspect a lot of the time problems on these are mis-diagnosed as the fuel pump as "they're rubbish" or because they're the most profitable part to change.

I do remember that the transponder pick ups often go on these, although I also seem to recall cars with a key pad don't have the transponder set up with the chip in the ignition key (anyone?) My 2.1 came with 3 keys and it took me a long time to realise that the reason it would occasionally fail to start was because one key didn't have the transponder chip in it - it threw up no fault lights or anything while it was cranking, it just wouldn't fire.

I had the needle lift sensor go on my 2.1 and it characterised itself as being low on power. One time, the engine stalled doing motorway speeds but restarted straight away.

And I also had the issue with it not starting sometimes. Had to take the key out for a few seconds and try again - on subsequent attempts it would fire at first turn. I am guessing the transponder on the key wasn't being picked up sometimes.

How can i tell if my key has a transponder in it or do they all have one?

If you don't have a keypad, you'll have a transponder.

Ah ok i searched keypad and it is a physical item in the car.
Ok this makes sense as the key to this car was recently lost and a new one was recut and it has not gone since.
The reason a transponder was not thought of was a key had been previously cut at some point years ago and it started it no problem.
But logic suggests lack of transponder is the issue?
What should i do from here presuming it is a lack of a transponder?
Thanks for your advice

The vehicle is 1998 so i think it is a mk1 fob/key from what i can see.
Presuming this is the issue(most likely) can i get a replacement second hand and recode it somehow?

Local agents are quoting a hell of a lot to sort the coding side of it.$600 NZ dollars for 2 keys. 335 Pound

I take it you only had the one key? How did you get another one cut?

Don't you have a plastic card with a code on it? There's a chap on Peugeot Forums who can apparently get you this code for a small fee. You can then use it to get and program a new key.

Dealers can also get you this code. They told me they could not, but a friend of mine who works there got it for me.

i had the key cut off the wafers by a friend locksmith.
Will try the dealers and check the car to see if code is on a card somewhere.
thanks and will report back :)

Did D8s come with the card? I didn't think they did (although I've found some links that said they did...). I also found some links that say that it's very hard to bypass this (unlike the keypad) because the decoding's done by the ecu (really?). I came across a few car locksmiths that seemed equipped to deal with the transponder chip, perhaps you can find something like that where you are :?
