So, I'm about to change the clutch on a '96 saloon with the XU10J4R engine and a BVM5 transmission. I've never changed a clutch before.

My question is mainly; anything I should change when I'm in there? I've been told that a seal can get old and leak some engine oil onto the clutch plate, is that correct? Should I change this?

well,on my 406,just before clutch died,master cylnder from clutch pedal also died so you should check that if you want
Dont know much about mechanic so i cant help you with other things

be prepped for drive shaft seals, gearbox input shaft seals, crank shaft seals this one will need the fly wheel taking off, there may also be sum plastic bushing which are cheap but service box is not listing the clutch layout for the box so i can't tell you if they are there or not

Finally done

Quite a job. It all started so well with none of the drive shafts sticking and everything external coming off in about an hour. Then the damn box stuck on until I had exhausted all the clever ideas and simply forced the thing off. A bit of a scary bang and off it came, no damage done.
Gearbox was lighter than I expected, so despite the presence of a gearbox jack I just lifted it out, changed the clutch and every seal I bought. Then of course the fork required two people working together to get on right, and my dear friend who was nice enough to help is .. well, mechanicly challenged, so that took about two hours including taking it off again.

Was kind of a fun job, and not really that hard. Would expect to do the next one in about half the time:) Thanks for all your help.
