Gearbox diff seal!

The driver's side gearbox diff oil seal has sprung a leak on my car (2000 HDI 110 BHP, RHZ). Now Ive changed diff seals on a few mates car's and it wasn't too difficult. I just took the driveshaft out of their gearbox's and the seal was exposed and simply removed and a new one tapped in. However when I was around at peugeot ordering a new one I could see on 'servicebox' what looked like a cover plate bolted on to the gearbox housing and some sort of cir'clip holding the seal in place.
Am I correct in this or is this gearbox the same as the others I have done in the past? ie just pull the seal out with pliers when the drive shaft is removed.
Anyone have any past experience with this particular job
cheers

Take out the driveshaft then unbolt the cover plate and remove it, tap out the old seal carefully then carefully tap in a new seal...be sure to note which way round the seal fits....there is no circlip holding the seal in place.

Smear a little grease onto the new seal lip and a little sealant onto the cover plate facing then refit everything.

I would drain the gearbox oil first...you will need 1.9 litres of 75w80 gear oil....refill from either the plastic breather screw hole or the reverse light switch hole.

Cheers jasper5, just the info I was looking for!
Any recommendations on which sealant to use for the cover plate. Will any kind of instant gasket maker do? I already have a tub I used to reseal a leaky rocker cover with.

Use the stuff you already have, but be sure to only use a smear...you don't want any inside the gearbox!
