I have the old antI-pollution fault, and whilst looking in bay on the RH side, found a loose cable with a half yellow connecter, about 3cm wide.
it wasn't the maf or throttle cable, any ideas

Is that rhs stading at the front of the car looking under the bonnet or as it would be sitting in the driver's seat? Any chance you can read any of the codes off of the wires?

Hi & welcome to the forum.
Bit difficult to visualise from your description, any chance of a pic or two?
Think the swirl flap solenoid valve is in that area, but they're not all the same. What year is the car?

standing over bonnet. 18 is the number and yellow with a blue band 3 cm from connector end.2002 plate.
hello to all as well.
I currently own a 2002 hdi 406 estate glx , bought with fault (anti-pollution) 4 weeks ago. so far changed fuel filter (after fitting incorrectly, then dropping and breaking it

) air filter, cabin, aux belt and will do oil of weekend.
List to do, going to change interior to leather one (bought already), defap and remap it, strut brace, Change rear drop links, cambelt and get some nice alloys over the next 6 months.
it runs just in limp mode.
I have owned 2 306 hdi's, a 406 2.2 hdi coupe (About 32 different cars in total)..so not adverse to frenchies..
cheers

A pic or some wire no.s, as steve says, would help - or a PP2000 diagnosis.
Could easily be a dpf issue and since you intend removing it anyway, maybe sooner would be better?
Sounds like you know the score, but feel free to PM me if you want any help.

SO it's just got 1 wire in it? The number should be at least 4 characters, I just had a squint and numbers starting with 18 seem to refer to the particulate filter (but none of them just have 1 wire

)

Not something I've spotted on my 2.0... That's by the brake master cylinder? Can you push the tube back and read any numbers?

the only number is 8 . Had a look it is tied in with others, and won't reach far, it is next to the engine but can't see where it can go. A mystery?

cut the cable sheath off and you will be able to get the wire code off it, pug used any color cable so the colors are not much use as they change from car to car so the 4 digit code is how to identify the wire

Looking at the pictures, I'd hazard a guess that's your upstream dpf temperature sensor connector, (found this unplugged on my previous 2.2 HDi - curiously it didn't cause any problems without it)! You'll probably find the other half hanging between the two pressure sensor pipes.
The upstream sensor is in the cat housing, just after the flexible exhaust section, BTW
