turn on ignition
turn to start = clicking from solenoid
Suspect solenoid is trying to turn the starter motor, possibly starter stuck.

Rocked the car in gear, fault remains.

Sprayed everything with wd40
gave the starter a tap, fault remains

Now when I turn on the ignition wisps of smoke starts to come from the negative battery terminal, starter still will not turn.

Any help or clues appreciated

Jack

Hi mate, just get car bump started and see what happens.
If starter is stuck then solenoid will only burn out then possibly affect the wiring?
Remember to park facing downhill in the meantime..

if its stuck rocking it in gear will make no difference as it will be disengaged from the ring gear on the flywheel.try "tapping" the starter with a piece of wood not a lump of metal!! this will more than likely start then and sometimes this fix will work for a while but your starter is on its last legs and needs changing.

If you have smoke coming from the negative battery terminal and a clicking you should be checking the battery connections are clean and tight before looking at the starter motor.

Make sure your battery is in good condition too, try a jump start after the terminal clean/check.
