Post by kevinday284 »

hi guys
my 406 was running ok then one morning it would not start I gave it a jump start and she fired up and since then ive had not luck getting her started I called AA 1st time and he said it was the glow plug relay so I changed it and still the same so called AA again next other bloke came and the said I got a fault with the ECU coz got power to the glow plug relay and power to the 4 pin plug underneath the relay but no power to glow plugs he thinks the ECU is not giving the signal to the relay to fire up .

Is the lift pump under the back seat priming :?:
If not check the inertia cut off switch
Then the relay next to the ECU,

Yeah, I ran my car with faulty glow plug relay for 3 years and it only had a little trouble starting in the winter.

In-tank pump would be my next step. Can you hear it whirring when you turn ignition on?

The inertia cut off switch is near the suspension leg
Passenger side, look near the battery,

Brown double relay, if its got one shouid be under the ECU cover drivers side
Cam side of engine,

Is the lift pump whirring when you put the ignition on. :?:

Is this a Siemens or Bosch? The reason I ask is if it's a Siemens it doesn't have a lift pump.

Can you check whether you have fuel flowing to the injectors? Disconnect one of the return pipes and crank the engine - you should see fuel trickling out of there.
