Hi and good evening...i am new to the club as have owned my first ever 406 for only 4 weeks, i ahv ealways liked the cars and when the chanc earrived to own one i just had to . It is a 2.0hdi Rapier that has only done 67000 had one retired gentleman owner from new stacks of service history and is excellent condition it is a 52 plate it comes with auto lights and auto wipers my mpg is excellent i commute from Coventry to Birmingham a 48 mile round trip and am seeing 45 mpg i have never had a car do that sort of mpg before.....Now a slight problem with it nothing major sa everything works but presuming i have a hole in my washer bottle sa it ran out of water the other day i refilled it and it just ran out the bottom i am assuming that once i can get the plaxtic protection cover off underneath that it will show the washer bottle and the problem sa dont want to spend money on garage labour......advice please

I've had the front half of the wheelarch liner off, but can't honestly remember waht you can / can't see. That would be my first move though.

Maybe someone with a functioning memory will be along soon.

I would remove the drivers side wheel arch liner to see the bottle ( behind the bumper ) and look for obvious leaks or loose pipes. Maybe someone can fill it while you are looking?
I can supply a second hand one if yours has split, as I am stripping a similar model ( car, that is... )

Not sure how easy it is to get to. The plastic cover underneath is part of the (front part of the) wheel arch liner, it's so easy to get off that even I can do it. Might have to get the headlight out to get at it from above too?

Here's the diagram from Service Box. Not terribly helpful.



Maybe best to pull one off a scrapper before attempting the real thing?

Sorry, wrong diagram. That one is for cars with headlight wash. This is for all cars. There are four different bottles

I got round to replacing mine yesterday as I split mine last month I changed it with the wheel arch liner in place,& with the wheel on.Although its best to remove the headlamp,which involves removing the grill.
Its best to jack the front corner of the car up,just enough to get you head under there.There are 2 torx screws under the corner of the bumper that hold the bottom of the arch liner in place.Undo those & you should be able to pull the liner back enough to get access & see the washer bottle.If you need to remove it,remove the grill by removing the 3 fixings on top of the grill,then tilt the grill forward a bit,look down behind it & you will see it clips in on top of the bumper.un clip it & remove.Then remove the headlamp,which is held in by 3 10mm bolts,1 bolt on the main beam side where the grill was,1 bolt ontop of the head lamp and 1 bolt mounted onto the inner wing.Once the headlamp is pulled out there is 1 10mm bolt under where the headlamp was on the corner of the front panel holding the bottle in place.Then unscrew the black plastic filler tube from the top of the bottle.The under neath the car,undo the pipes to the washer pump(depending on if you have an estate,1 or 2 pipes)disconnect the plug to the pump,then remove the bottle.Its a tight fit,& it has a rubber gromit in the chassis where the bottle fits into,but a bit of turning twisting & swearing,you should get it out ok.All in,it took me 20 mins from start to finish.

Hi guys sorry its took a while to report back its our busy time at work. Just to let you know that the washer bottle problem was my fault when i went to fill the bottle up i stupidly took the cap off with the pipe attached to it the feeds the water now reattached i am a plonker sometimes. The next thing to sot out is the intermitent problem with the engine coolant temprature sensor as it sometimes comes on . Got one today but it was thew wrong one for the car apprantley there are 3 different ones . it will ahve to wait till next friday now i am soooo happy cheap fixes instead of 100s of pounds like on my jag......happy days and i can do it myself without garage labour.....hooray for the 406
