Squeak following engine change

Hey all,

I had a 80k hdi engine laying around the garage and the car 220k needed a clutch (following re-map) and a cambelt and a service all at the same time so I figured whilst its in bits I might Aswel throw the engine in.

The 80k engine was from an auto and mines a manual and for the sake of anyone wishing to do the same there are few things different
1. There is an extra water outlet for the auto box
2. Water return was on the bottom of the rad
3. The driveshaft bearing holder was smaller for the auto (likewise the shafts)

One thing I did notice was 2 wires were arcing on the engine the glow plug wire and the smaller of the black wires coming from the alternator. So I would suggest checking yours

So anyways back to the problem

When the ignition is off there is a squeak or more like a chirp not particularly loud coming from what sounds like the fuel pump , so for the meanwhile the car is outside with the batt disconnected

Any Ideas guys and gals

Pete

Do you mean it makes a noise for a while after you stop the engine? (This is usually the vacuum dissapating, I think).

Hi doggy

No the noise disappears when I disconnect the battery also no matter how long I leave it when I reconnect the battery the noise reappears

Thanks for your reply

In that case, you need to track down the soure of the noise - when you say fuel pump, do you mean the in-tank lift pump?

If so, try removing the fuel pump fuse and see if that shuts it up

Hmmm. Fuse pulling is a good idea, the noise is under the bonnet by the high pressure fuel pump, could even be the starter, its one of them noises that thows itself around I'm just waiting on someone shouting "it's behind you" lol
