Any advice on lack of boost

Sorry to be a bit vague but when the car is in the air I cannot hear any noise from the turbo - borrowed the stethoscope from work. No smoke or evidence of oil leak.

What actually controls the turbo? I seem to have a number of modules against the bulkhead but I cannot work out what does what.

Where is the Hayes Manual when you need it to stop idiots like me asking idiot questions?

The vehical concerned is a Executive estate 2.0 (TURBO INJECTION XU10J2TE) on a 98 plate

The D8 Haynes wouldn't be any help because it doesn't cover tubbies (or V6s or coupés  )

Given one for Fathers Day. Is there any publication that would help an Old Fart in trouble?

Umm, I'm not sure but I suspect the answer's in the negative. I'm sure someone like Teamster will be be able to help, it's a shame Travis doesn't seem to be about any more as he was pretty hot on tubbies (hope he's ok).

Service Box does indeed show a solenoid:

but how it's actuated I've no idea. :(

i would check for boost leaks, pressurizing the intake system will show up vac leaks on the open side.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atretf9u-Mc you can use a bike pump instead of the compressor, you can get bolt in tire valves

easiest way to check if its the electro vacumn valve on the bulkhead that controls the turbo, swap the 2 small vacumn pipes as one controls the egr valve and the other controls the turbo.your egr doesn't need to work but sometimes they stick open and can cause lack of power, excessive smoke etc.You are better off blanking it off.
if after swapping the pipes it still doeast work you will need to look abit deeper do you have a mil light on, or has it come on at all if so could be maf, common fault on these.
