Anti pollution fault - time to de-fap?

Morning guys - the never ending christmas tree has lit up again - this time says "Anti Pollution fault" and my engine management light has also come on with it and cruise control stopped working. I used to get the "fuel addative" fault but that went away. Is it time to de-fap my car? i am ok with the physical side of it, but not the ECU side. Any guides/links about?

Couple of questions

- What is the anti pollution fault?
- can i ignore it?
- will it do the car any damage, or send the ecu into safe mode or something daft (how long will this take)
- How do i turn it off.

Its strange, but the car seems to be going alot better now it is on!! might just be me!

If anyone can do the ECU map/or even de-fap at a cost. Drop me a PM.

Thanks guys

The only sure way to find out is to have the fault code(s) read. It seems very unlikley a FAP-related problem would affect your cruise control, as mine continued to work, even with the engine in limp mode. This means you almost certainly will find multiple problems.

Personally, I would remove the FAP physically and in software, note and reset the fault codes, then see what comes back. This would also give you the chance to diagnose your cruise problem the easy way. It's also strange that the additive fault went away, normally they lurk about and plot your downfall. As I say, de-fapping may not be the full answer, but it's a question of when, rather than if, you need to do something about the dpf.

As you're an established member, I would happily do this for you FOC, but don't know if that's practical distance-wise. Alternatively, get yourself along to Pugfest on the 14th for an unusually worthwhile day out.

Anti pollution fault simply means any engine ecu related fault, (guessing the marketing guys triumphed over common sense).
Without knowing what's up, it's impossible to tell if it will worsen or when - if it's an intemittent fault, it may even go away itself, (but would still be logged).

Doggy - many thanks again. Sound advice.

Seems as the "anti pollution" fault doesnt directly point it at the FAP, it could, like you said be another fault which has caused the cruise control to stop working. I will get my mate to plug it in on Friday and see what fault codes pop up and will update on here. I am pretty sure my uncle (previous owner) had the whole jobbie done at pug, but that would be at least 7 years ago now.

Many thanks for your offer to de-fap - i dont think i am able to make pugfest this year unfortunately. Havent been for quite some time - i had a 106 rallye last time i was there!

If i nail it down to the de-fap issue, i will go ahead with it and take the plunge and drive up to you - been dying to get rid of it for a while to be honest.

Will let you know what codes i get :)
