Is it possible to overfill the gearbox with oil,and if so what will happen?

Yes its possible to overfil the box depending on where you've filled it from

It will overflow through the vent and can end up all over the bulk head
You will notice a stinky gas like smell if it over flows.

Filled it from the filler under the air filtering.Reason I ask is I have a leak after replacing my clutch and put 2 litres of fresh back in.Do you think its possible it could leak from somewhere due to overfilling. :|

Did you empty/drain the box of its oil
Before removal,

I'd just remove the level plug/wheel arch liner may have to come off for access to it mind.
Remove plug and see if oil flows out if it does its overfilled.

I might be wrong but. Iirc the filler you mention under the air filter ain't a filler point
Its a vent.
Nowt wrong with filling them there if you know the box is empty to start with otherwise your working blind
On the correct level,
An overfilled box will blow the excess out .
I've done it myself its easily done.

The amount of oil you put in is about right.

Have you checked the driveshaft oil seal/s for leaking? That's the most common cause of a leak after the gearbox has been out.

Yes mate driveshafts ok,it seems like its creeping out from the thin metal plate which is held on by 11mm bolts.

Did you remove the clutch release bearing guide sleeve? If so, did you replace it or seal it up? This is the only place where gearbox oil can leak out from if the oil is coming from the tin plate.....don't remember if the oil seal is part of the sleeve or separate.

Is the gearbox breather clear? A blocked/stuck breather will allow a leak due to pressure build up.

Think I renewed the oil seal on the input shaft as I think it came with the kit. Will check the breather tomoz.

I would doubt whether the oil seal in question came with a clutch kit. This seal is a gearbox specific part and although the clutch release bearing slides up and down it, it would have to be ordered separately.
Clutch kits usually comprise of pressure plate, friction plate and release bearing.
